I read today that people were starting to see "Made in China" labels on Mann filters. This was like two years ago. Has anyone noticed this popping up on the model of filters that we use on the B230 series of red blocks? If so, has there been a decline in quality?
What I read came from three sources, one a VW van forum, another for BMW owners and the third was a Mercedes forum (I think).
All stated that Mann quality had been slipping on the products that they used. One case cited a transmission filter that took quite a long time to fit properly.
How are we doing with these filters in regards to the great migration of manufacturing to China?
Also, iPd was out of Mann oil filters last week. My big order was being held while they waited for a new batch. The sales guy sold me three Meyle ones instead. He stated that iPd was starting to like them better as the check valve seemed to be a bit more robust.
Seriously? Anyone know anything about this? I got the three Meyle filters. No biggie. But should I consider switching to them for good? Are they any better?
Finally, all the forums I visited seemed to have vocal customers of Wix filters, which is a brand with which I have no experience. Do they make a filter for our engine, and if so, is it any good?
I am trying to learn as much as I can, but the amount of unconfirmed information and opinion out there is overwhelming. And finding any sort of RECENT filter comparison test has so far been wasted effort on my part.
