The tailpipe in our '88 244 started to hang, which told me hangers for the rear muffler needed replacement. Both the two for the back muffler which go in relatively easy. Then I got struck with the ALA syndrome strikes, as long as i have the car up, will replace the hangers for the front muffler too. pulled out the IPD tool i bought time ago for this, and took out the one doughnut that looked all cracked, but still holding (bad decision!). to make a long story short, i could not figure if the IPD tool is simply intended to pull the ring in place (which would make it a two-man job) or use the little offset hook in the end to wrap around one of the ears in the muffler and then leverage the rubber thing into place. i tried a couple of different ways and ended up with two brand new broken rubber rings plus the old broken ring as well. are there any instructions anywhere on how to use that tool?
