I have an 89 240 manual wagon, which has an intermittent problem which seems rpm relaited. It do not have a tachometer, so I have to guess at the rpm.
It sometimes will not go over about 3,500 -4,000 rpm, while driving. It is like the rev limiter was lowered to 3,500 to 4,000.
This affects acceleration, and the car will not go over about 60mph when this problem occurs.
I removed the distributor cap, and I could not see any flyweights to lube.
On my last 2 mile trip, I disconnected the Air Mass Meter, and the problem did not occur. Since the problem is intermitent, this doesn't prove much.
I have another Volvo I could swap parts with to diagnose.
