How do I remove the "detent ring' at bottom of M47 shifter? 200

My reverse lever broke inside my gear shifter.
In the Bentley 430-3 it says with a picture that
the 'detent ring' that holds the bottom of that
arm down is removable, but I can't get that rubber
piece out...
any advice is appreciated.
