I have a 1990 744 LH2.4 that I am about to swap out the sending unit.
I was suspicious of my old one. The arm is supposedly "spring loaded" but nowhere can I find information on how much tension it should have in order to be considered functional.
My old one slides back and forth pretty freely and something inside flops back and forth inside the tube. The wiring is ruined. I could rewire, but I have no idea about the stiffness of the sender's arm that the pump rides on.
I purchased a used one off of eBay from a used seller that I have dealt with many times in the past. I am sure that the part was tested and works properly. However, how can I tell?
The new one is STIFF. It travels up and down, but only with some pressure.
I need to get outside to install it sometime today, but am willing to wait for a concrete answer. I will upload a short video to youtube and link it here so you can see the two next to one another and what I am asking about.
Thanks!
EDIT: Here is a link to my video via YouTube. I hope that someone who knows about this part can help me decide what to do. The wiring on my part is terrible. The plastic slider on the "new" one is suspect. Can I remove the sliders and swap them? It looks like that *might* be possible since the fill tube is held in place with a band clamp.
Best case would be to use the replacement cap and wiring and my sender, the pump bracket from the replacement and my brand new replacement pre-pump and sick filter.
Based on the video, can this be done, and does it look like my sender is the better one, or is the more stiff replacement one in better shape?
