1990 760 auto overdrive acting up

1990 760 auto will shift in and out of overdrive only when shifter is in park no response when in neutral or drive,no solenoid clik ,only in park , dash indicater lite works only in park ,will not light up in gear . if overdrive mode is set in park it will work but cannot be switched back without going into park.
