940 strut tubes on an '88 740 turbo? 700 1988

Hi BB'ers,

Recently I purchased new Bilstein HDs to put on my '88 745T. I found that the gland nut on one of my strut tubes had been welded into place because there were no threads on the tube left.

I pulled new tubes from a '94 940 that are pretty much identical, except the ABS sensors have a different part number than the ones on my '88 (yes my '88 has ABS).

I damaged one sensor on the '88 trying to remove it. New sensors are almost $200 a piece. The sensors are not going to come out of any of the tubes without a fight (that I will probably lose).

Does anyone know if I can use the '94 sensors? The ring on the hub is different for the two years (teeth count is much different). But the sensors look almost identical. They both have the diamond-shaped tip.

Can I get away with using the '94 hubs and sensors, and maybe just swap out the ABS module for '94 (if that's even possible)?

Thanks,

Jesse
