Heater box / fan options 444-544 1964

Hello all!

I've pulled the heater box out of my '64 544 for general cleaning and repair. It was certainly a mess.

I'm in the process of media blasting the old box and prepping for paint, and I figure now will be as good a time as any to tinker with the blower fan.

Looking at the blower fan, it appears to be very similar to the one in my '66 122. The biggest difference seems to be the propeller that moves the air.

The 544 has the "squirrel cage" fan, where as my 122 has the "propeller" style. I'd like to switch the fan to the propeller style, as it seems to move a fair bit more air and make a lot less noise. I'm just not sure if this style of fan blade can be made to fit. Has anyone ever made this change? Any details on what's involved?

The other part I'm curious about is the seal that goes on the vent door inside the car (the part that directs the airflow.) There seems to be a rubber piece along the edge of it, and in the case of my car, it's very hard and brittle. Is this gasket still available? I couldn't find it through my normal channels.

Any other improvements that might be done while I'm in there? When I went through this process with my 122 a few years back it made a world of difference after I got everything put back together.

Thanks, as always.
