Starter and shock options 900 1996

First, Where is the recover or forgot password link!
Second,
My wonderful 96-960 wagon has had an intermittant starting problem for quite some time. It has gradually gotten worse and I need to repair.
Now and then, the starter will not 'catch', ie, it just spins. Usually after three or four attempts, it will grab the flywheel and twist the beast to life.
I'm thinking starter replacement. Are there any sources or brands I should avoid?
Also, I need to replace two struts and two rear shocks. I'd like to up the handling aspect and go some better than OEM. Again, I seek recommendations.
Sachs, Bilstein, KYB,KONI??
