instrument cluster plug 900 1995

I finally got tired of having the right side instrument cluster light being dark so, armed with four new bulbs, I tried to take it out. Took me a little while to get the front surround out but after that everything went well until . . . I ran into the black plug on the right hand side of the cluster.

Unlike the other main plugs which are white in colour, the black plug has a white holding fixture that I could not figure out how to remove. It is obviously a separate clip from the cluster and from the black plug. It is white and it seems to push into the cluster and then to arch over the black plug and to help hold the black plug in place.

I tried various stratagems, twisting, pulling, pushing back and forth and I could not get this clip off. I did not use a tool on it because I was afraid I might break it. Finally I just replaced the four cluster lights without removing the panel from the car.

So I got the job done but I would have liked to remove the cluster and bring it to the workbench so that I could check it over and clean it. I also managed to break the lower left hand screw holding portion of the frame and I wanted to super glue it back together on the bench rather than in the car.

Just curious as to how that clip separates from its plug and if there is a video or set of pictures demonstrating its removal.
