Having ever so much fun adjusting the hood spring on my 62 544. I first set it up with the bottom retainer pin in place and the spring resting on it, but all this did was bend the slotted piece that goes inside the spring, preventing the hood from opening enough. Is it correct to adjust the spring compression by inserting this pin through the coils at a correct location (trial and error, I guess). Why are there two half-moon cutouts at the bottom of this slotted guide--maybe for attaching a special tool to compress the spring as you work on it?
