Fuel gauge goes to empty when head lights are turned on. 940 base model 900 1994

Turning on the headlights causes the fuel gauge to go to empty (all the way to the left) and the left blicker indicator come on stays on and stays lit. Not blinking just stays on green. Turn off the headlights and everytthings goes back to normal. Anyone have any ideas on this? Thanks
