Volt / Oil Pressure Gauge Installation 140-160

I am installing VDO volt & oil pressure gauges in my 73 142. It has a 12 space fuse panel, like the early 240 series.
I ran the power for them to fuse #3 & #4, along with my stereo, using piggyback connectors. When hooked up, my stereo no longer worked. Removed the gauges, and the stereo works.
What could be going on?
If I can't piggyback them to the stereo, what switched fuses can I use for the gauges?
