Heat-A/C control switch is stuck 700 1989

I tried to find an answer to this in 700/900 FAQ to no avail. Yesterday I moved the heat-A/C control switch to A/C on my '89 740 GL during a warm part of the day. When I attempted to move it back to heat later, it wouldn't budge. I don't want to force it and break something. Any thoughts on what happened and how to go about a fix for this weird issue? Jim
