the old odometer quitting trick again 92 245 200

hi sages- when i bought my 92 240 back in early 2011, it had a dead odometer but the speedometer itself worked fine. after a number of advice seeking messages here and with odometer gears.com i solved the problem in 2012 and it has worked fine until today. at the time and following the sages here i took out the cluster, noticing the unusual magnet motor, the two plastic gears and the wiring into the cluster from the sender on the differential case. one of the gears operating from the motor had lost some teeth which i was told was a common ailment . i replaced the two gears with a new set from odometer gears. com. didnt work. after further advice from sages here, i removed the cluster, tookit apart and shook out plastic fragments from the old gear teeth. put it all back together and it has worked fine until today . noticed the odometer was notworking during a 30mile trip. on the return trip it started working again. the speedometer has worked normally though since 2011. here is my theory : either the gear i replaced has broken teeth again or needs lube or fragments are interfering again. figure it isnt a crapped out motor because i would think if that stopped or ran intermittently the speedometer needle wouldnt turn. plan to take cluster out, inspect the gears and possibly blowout the cluster again. the gear seller up in va i think , told me the new gears were stronger and made from better plastic. would appreciate your critique of my analysis. by the way does the motor only operate the gears to the odometer and trip counter or does it also operate the speedometer. if the latter is true then the motor is not bad since the speedo works continually. if not, do these motors crap out? thanks tons oldduke
