Folks,
Why does this water pump kit have five rubber washers?
I'll guess, by count, these rubber washers go under the secure hardware mating faces.
So I ask you folks, why are these washer here, do we need them, do you use them, and so forth. Why?
I have to replace my Volvo OEM water pump I installed on my 1991 240. The Volvo OEM blue box water pump is maybe three-five years old and no more than 5000 miles, perhaps. I've replaced maybe three or four dozen water pumps on Volvo, and maybe twice that or more on other automobile makes and models.

The rear seal-bearing assembly, that keeps the coolant in the engine, has failed, causing my alternator issue. The coolant mix (anti-freeze + distilled, demineralzed, or best, deionized water) is so new it did not make the leaky coolant smell.
I bought this kit yesterday from Carquest. I was told by the Carquest parts store manager this was Victor-Reinz. It is an MTC made in India water pump gasket kit for 1985+ B230 ALL kit.
I was too tired, after an 11-hour+ day, to be critical of the package, stupidly, on my part.
Yet I'll use synthetic silicone grease on all sealing parts (quite dielectric on its own, won't bother the rubber pieces as much). Though the Permatext Ultra Grey have never failed me on coolant and oil seal applications.
Now I'll ring up the Carquest store and deliver my mind in a piece, or something.
Sure Happy i'ts Thursday! (OR, Happy Friday Eve!)
Thanks,
Kitty's Dud.
