Why does my 1993 940 T shift into OD at 30 mph and my 1991 240 at 40 mph?

In an attempt to get better gas mileage, I tried adjusting around on the kickdown cable on my 240 hoping to get it to shift into OD at 30 mph like my 940T. No matter what I try, I cannot get the 240 to shift into OD before 38 mph. I know that it won't make a huge difference but it seems to me that if it shifted into OD sooner it would = better gas mileage. I am guessing the gear ratios are different? Thanks!
