no-start after heater hose installation = was contagious ECT 200 1990

So I thought I'd start a new thread since my no start condition has nothing to do with my failed (and now replaced with new) ECT sensor.

I've had a no start condition described as follows (after removing the intake manifold and maintaining throttle body, intake manifold, distributor and rotor, iac valve, ect sensor, clamping fuel lines for a few days, etc.)

car will start and run as long as pedal is down, as soon as pedal is released to idle it stalls.

IAC valve has been thoroughly tested according to Bentley so I'm confident it is working correctly (although at this point I'm not really confident about anything!)

spark plugs have been changed with known good ones and the wires are set in the proper firing order according to Bentley

distributor cap and rotor have been swapped out with new ones to no avail

__________

at this point the only things I've noticed that are questionable are the following

the metal pipe that conducts exhaust gas to the egr valve is rusted out at its 90 degree angle closest to the exhaust manifold.... (when the car was able to maintain an idle after spraying no start it seemed to do that after spraying around the exhaust side of)

there is a rectangular rubber insert missing from one of the injector wire connectors causing it to slip a short distance when plugged into its injector while all the other injector connectors are tight with no slip

for giggles I've replaced the AMM with a known good one and I've removed the air filter.

I have a working 1990 240 in the driveway that I could swap other known good parts from if anyone has any suggestions that might help me solve this dilemma.

I'm suspicious of the only thing I messed with that I don't know how to check, that is the injectors - could they have become clogged by my foolishly clamping and misshaping the fuel lines to the fuel rail when I removed them to take off the intake manifold??

as usual I greatly appreciate any of the collective wisdom of this fine board that might be able to be offered.

Jack
