So I had been having tailgate wiring issues on and off forever it seemed. I would get one side fixed, and then the other would go. And then the ground wire on the first side would go, and then the other. It just seemed to be a constant headache. I know there are plenty of threads out there on how to fix the wiring harness at the back, but I thought I'd share my method. It takes the hinge out of the equation completely, and although a drill and a couple sized bits are required, it makes for a nice clean appearance and provides easy access to the wiring should (heaven forbid) future repairs are required.
Broken Ground:

Here you can see how I drilled a hole into the body and using a small grommet, I fed the wiring harness from the connectors above the headliner through to the tailgate. When you close the tailgate the harness bends out of sight completely. Should repairs ever be required again, no fishing through the hinge or disassembly.

For the ground wire, I just fed it through the same grommet, wrapping it around the tailgate harness. I drilled a hole on the roof frame behind the headliner, and another hole on the tailgate. Then a couple screws, and no more ground problems at the back!

I have no problems drilling the holes into the body if it means no more tailgate wiring headaches!
