Steering Wheel Nut 200

I am fixing a 1991 240gl for my son. There are lots of things I need to swap from the parts car to the registered one.
I am stuck trying to swap the steering wheel because it requires a very deep socket or tube spanner of an unknown largish size.
If I knew the size I wouldn't mind spending $10 or so on the correct socket.
Thanks, I've been perusing this forum and am impressed by the amount of great info available here.
I will shortly have a few different questions,
