940 turbo alternator 900 1991

I have a 1991 940 turbo wagon. Battery does not hold a charge but alternator does not seem to be charging, or keeping the battery charged. How hard is it to change out the alternator? Do they have a built in voltage regulator? Any help would really be helpful
