91 240 automatic - can't depress button on shifter and move out of P.
I have verified that fuses 7 and 12 are good. With the key on (or with engine running) I can hear and feel the shiftlock solenoid click, but the mechanism does not unlock. The yellow override lever doesn't release the mechanism either.
Trying to understand how the system works - I can see that there is a black plastic piece on the left(driver) side of the shifter mechanism that seems to be what is blocking the button from being able to be depressed - seems like this same piece would also prevent the shifter from moving back into the various gear positions, but in the limited space I cant see how the solenoid would "release" this piece. I can't see what the override lever strikes to manually release it either.
I suspect that while the solenoid is clicking, it isn't really operating fully and unlocking the mechanism -
If I pry the solenoid loose would that release the mechanism?
