Yes, this is off topic, but I'm wondering, with the VW emissions kerfuffle going on, if emissions tests for NOx are actually conducted on diesels in the US.
The reason I ask is because in Ontario (I don't know about the rest of Canada) emissions of diesels is checked for opacity. The don't test for NOx or HC output using sensors. So it doesn't matter if emissions test were rigged.
And in general, it wouldn't surprise me if real world emissions for cars tend to be worse than treadmill emissions.
