Urgent question: Front Brake Pads - Can the retaining springs be left off?

Replacing the front calipers, rotors and pads; well actually my mechanic is. Work started this afternoon and will be completed tomorrow (Friday) morning.

The retaining pin springs that came with the Cardone calipers are the correct ones, but my mechanic felt they restricted the pads from easily moving off the rotor when one takes their foot off the brake.

How important are they on the reinstall?

What would happen if we left them off?

Hoping for a response tonight.
