tailgate wiring harness rebuild ? 940 900 1993

The insulation on the wires in the tailgate wiring harness on my 940 wagon has absolutely disintegrated around the tailgate hinge (#2 in the photo) and inside the tailgate. (I'm surprised I haven't had a fire).

Fortunately there is enough good original wire coming out of the assorted connectors, especially the one inside the cabin.

OEM harnesses, when available, run around $180

I'm going to run new wires instead

Any suggestions from you guys will be welcome.
