92 245 sticky wickets and sticky ignition switches easy or hellacious

hi sages- looking for experienced wrenchers here who have r and r'd the volvo ignition tumbler. the tumbler in my 245 ignition switch would not turn last night. finally after much fooling with juggling the locked steering wheel and many profane adjectives, the key turned , unlocked the wheel and started the car. having done this job on american tanks wondering how tough it is. most jobs on the 240 appear easy but are not. access from behind and under looks to be a conundrum designed for shyster dealer mechanics. whats the job like? also should i try a squirt of wd 40 or graphite spray in the key slot first. oldtimers used to tell me not to do that b/c it would gum up the tumbler and lead to an early clusterf@#!k. looking forward to your advice and commentary. thanks tons oldduke
