'93 940 Gear Selector Indicator Plate Removal 900

Dear Fellow Brickboarders,

Hope you're well. Can anyone tell me - step-by-step - how to remove the transmission shifter gear selector plate (which has on it letters and numerals that indicate the gear, e.g., P N D 1 2 )?

I need to change the Park-Neutral-Park (PNP) Switch. This is the dark brown plastic trapezoidal switch, on the driver's side of the shifter. The PNP switch has a four-wire harness.

I've removed the circular, internally-toothed pal nuts, that secure the PNP switch, but cannot free the swtich. The PNP switch seems to be held in by a plastic fitting, that in turn may be held in by the gear selector plate.

The FAQ section combines too many different modesl/years to be effective.

If removing the gear selector plate is not needed to free the PNP switch, please explain how to remove the PNP switch. Is is needful completely to remove the shifter from the car? I ask, because it seems that once the plastic switch retainer has been removed, the switch can be slid off of the two plastic posts, which keep it in place.

Thanks for your help. I appreciate it.

Yours faithfully,

Spook
