240 defrost vent flap issue 200 1988

I've just changed the internal heater fan on a 1988 240gl. The heater unit is fully manual with the fan on top of the unit. During the fix I've managed to break the internal flap(defrost) that directs the heat to the windscreen. Will out still work without the flap, even if not as good?
