Rusted differential cover 200 1987

Here's another request for advice. . .

As I'm finishing up the rear brake job, I noticed it looked like the top of the rear differential cover was about to fall to pieces (see picture - sorry, it's rotated 90 degrees).

Anyone had this problem? Am I overthinking this? I figured it wouldn't be terribly difficult to drain it and replace the cover while the wheels are off, but this feel like I'm about to fall down the rabbit hole.
