Head gasket blocking coolant passages 140-160

I am in the process of rebuilding a mild race B20 engine and I came across a strange discovery. The head gasket blocks the two coolant passages closer to the water pump. One of the passages is blocked almost entirely. The other about half. I checked two ther head gaskets and are exactly the same. The orientation of the head gasket is correct. Any ideas? Thank you in advance.
