AIP crank sensor failed 900 1994

Dear all Brickers!

I ordered an AIP crank sensor (from eBay) early Dec 2015 and it came 2 weeks later. The white box labelled as Crank Sensor 47-060915. Installed in car around Xmas. The OE Volvo CPS (installed Dec 2010) wasn't having any issue apart from the heat-hardened cable so I thought I better replace that before anything happens.

Last week while driving downhill the engine suddenly died. But it started right up. On the return journey uphill the engine died again. Started right up again. A quick OBD check didn't reveal any code. This week the car wasn't much used as I was on holiday. Today it happened again. This time it died after going over speed bump in a multi-storey car park. Started right up again. Another bump and it died again. So I took the next bump slowly and engine stayed running. Another symptom was that the engine could be less responsive from time to time with the need to press more on the gas pedal.

Several issues ran thru my mind - Could it be failing main pump? Because the need to press more gas. Could it be the in-tank feed pipe? That was replaced in 2011 and tank was 3/4 full. Could it also be the new CPS?

Back home with engine running I wriggled the CPS cable. Engine died straight-away. Aha! Checked that OBD still NO code! I can't believe this is happening. I'm starting to have doubts over the OBD. Reinstalled my old CPS all is good now!

Regards,
Amarin.
