Hi,
1990 245 auto, new to me. It was a Georgia car that somehow made it's way to Northern Vermont. The Po didn't want to use it in the winter up here, bought another car, parked it in a garage and that's where it's sat for the last 8 years. Sun bleached, but a nice rust free original example, nothing missing or any evidence of monkey business. It has some minor complaints from sitting and lack of maintenance in it's latter life, but it should be a good car.
Anyway, the in tank pump and fuel gauge are not working. I replaced the pump and tested the fuel sender on another car with a known working gauge, but it didn't produce a reading.
I have a couple of other parts senders with top damage. Both of those and this new sender show the same change in resistance when checking between the small blue wire at the connector under the cap and ground, while moving the float arm. I don't think that's the problem.
I suspect the knob on the outside of the top, which I believe holds a capacitor. Is there a way to test that? I don't read continuity when testing between the gray wire just outside the top and the blue wire under it, but I do get a fluctuating reading of high ohms. I'm not sure what to make of that.
From the installation and undercoating I suspect it's the original sender on this 200k car, but there's only a trace of rust on the pipes and no obvious damage. Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks, Peter
