A/C compressor shaft seal

I have a diesel-kiki compressor in my 92 740. It HAS been converted to R134a. The faq says these compressors after conversion are garbage. The dye test shows the shaft seal to be leaking, a modest but noticeable amount of dye behind the pulley. A charge usually last most of the summer, so it isn't rapid. I pulled a Seiko compressor from a 93 940 at the junkyard for $20.

Has anyone changed the compressor shaft seal on either the kiki or seiko compressors? I might do the seiko before I install it as preventative maintenance.

Does anyone know of a good bench test for the junkyard compressor I have, either DIY or at an A/C shop?

Thanks
Alex
