Pittsburgh Vintage Grand Prix - It's FREE !!! 200

I forgot to mention that the Pittsburgh Vintage Grand Prix races and car show at Schenley Park are FREE!

Don't mistaken these guys for a bunch of Walter Mitty wannabes merely parading their rare iron around a race track. For the most part, they are seriously racing. The year that BMW was the featured marque, I was sitting above a downhill section entering a tortured hairpin. I was awed when a swarm of 2002's came around, pedal to the metal, cheek by jowl and not one of them was backing off for that turn.

You can walk through the paddock and get up close to an amazing array of vintage cars. A Formula 500 Cooper with a Norton thumper engine, a D-Type, a race -prepped Alfa GTV, the list goes on and on.

About the only under-represented marque is Volvo. Let's not forget, the year the 242 Turbo was introduce, it could walk away from a Porsche 911.

So, grab a cooler of beer and a blanket and head out to the Burgh this weekend - you won't be disappointed.
