I redid the seals and gaskets in my M40. I then reinstalled the gearbox. Now it grinds trying to get it into 2nd either upshifting or downshifting. No trouble with any other gear. I thought I may have dislodged something When I pulled the front and covers to replace gasket. I have now pulled the gearbox again.
When I took the top cover off the spring was just lying on top. If it was off would it cause this? 
I do not see any signs of wear on the gears.
   
Is the spade switch on top of the rod cover backup lights?

There is gear oil on the splines and shaft. Dripped down front of gearbox. I had replace main seal. May not have worked.

Replaced clutch.
