Fuel pump delima 200 1993

I'm having trouble. Sometimes I can hear my fuel pump spinning away when I turn on the ignition, the car starts, then may keep running or die and not restart. Other times, the fuel pump doesn't work at all. It's a crap shoot. I've replaced the relay and checked the wiring. Is it time for a new pump, or is there something else I should check? Thanks in advance!
