Hi all, Been awhile since I posted, which is indicative of why I'm doing so much work on the car at this point... Anyway,
My question is this, I'm in a little bit of a catch-22 with how far to install the crankshaft seal, I've seen multiple tips and postings on the 700/900 Faq about not installing past 1/16 to 1/8 past the flange lip on the crankcase, but I've also read that if there is some scoring, wear, etc.. on the crankshaft to go a little deeper to get a better seal.
So, the crankshaft itself looked pretty good, didn't see any real noticeable wearing per say, but the housing on the outside of the seal has some pretty bad nicking, (maybe it was me, maybe it wasnt, lol) that being said, when i pulled the old seal it was pretty deep! Like way more than 1/16 1/8 deep, where I have it now looks about perfect..
So should i press it in deeper or just leave it at the suggested no further than 1/8 in. depth?
Thanks so much everyone!!!
