Patching together a '93 245

I have the chance to buy a '93 245 with a NG automatic transm. I have a good 4-spd tranny w Laycock OD. It came out of a '76 245. Could I make the transmission swap work? Would I have to swap the driveshafts too?
Also "the computer" (I think he meant ECU) got "fried" when someone put jumper cables on opposite terminals. The engine will turn over but won't start and run. Are ECUs from other yrs compatible w the '93? I've heard '93s have significant unique parts.
