The pump in the sending unit on my 1990 Volvo 740 wagon has died. It was fading for a long time and I was using the turn the key 5 times to get the pressure up before starting method, but the pump has now finally died and does not turn on at all. So, I have removed the access hatch and am ready to try to take off the hoses without damaging the pipes leading into the sending unit. All but one are simple clamps, though the clamps are rusty I can deal with those. The one I am having problems with is what I believe is the fuel line running toward the engine, though I could be wrong about this fact. Rather than a clamp it has a hex topped connector. The connector is rather rusted as you can see in the photo. How do I go about removing this connector? It isn't the snap on connector I've seen mentioned in the usual posts about the sending unit in this model.
Also, given the rusted nature of the lines leading through the top of the sending unit, would I be better off just getting a whole new sending unit, rather than trying to just replace the pump? Any suggestions are welcome.
