Clogged oil pickup FYI 200 1987

A friend bought a 240, running and driving, per PO "For a year or so the oil-pressure light would flicker at hot idle and there was little splashing if you opened the oil-filler with the engine running". We notice a slight rattle at hot idle.

The mass was small bits of vegetable matter eg. straw/grass.

I'm not sure how this much dirt would get into an engine. Perhaps it sat without an oil-filler cap or valve cover.

(We swapped the engine before we pulled the oil pan. Oil pressure in the old engine may be fine with a clean screen but I imagine that driving for "a year or so" with low oil pressure didn't help the moving parts.)
