AC - How to determine possible leaks and recharge? 900 1997

Hi all,

My AC is not working, so I decided to take a look:

My accumulator: P/N 6847510
My compressor: P/N 9171050 - ZEXEL

The compressor starts when I press the AC button, however I noticed that it is intermittent, every 2-3 secs it stops/re-starts/stops/re-starts and so on.

Now, since I have not been charging the system for at least 15 years, it is possible that I just need to recharge it with R134a.

However, before doing it, I wanted to verify if there is any leak.
I have a manifold gauge set, but I have realized that the 940s do not have a high pressure port.

So my questions:

1)Is there a way to see if there are any leaks in the system using the manifold gauge set without using the high pressure port?

I found the following video from a user, is this a safe method to do it?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MAobvFW_Cqk

2) What is the most effective way to see if there are leaks?

Thank you!
Alex
