Camshaft hitting valve cover? 900

Has anyone heard of this before? After my engine heats up a little bit I get this horrible banging in the valve cover area. Upon removing the valve cover the only odd thing I can see is marks on the valve cover in the position of the cams (see photo).

What are the opinions? Replace valve cover? Camshaft? Both? A friend suggested I try double/tripling up on the gaskets to get more clearance. Or, I am on the wrong path here ...

Thanks!
