Hello all, hope this is my last newbie question on my Air conditioning project. I have an 1987 244, was converted to 134 years ago with the Volvo kit. Compressor went out, so I have done the following. Have a new Sanden SD 7 Compressor, had all new barrier hoses made up with in-line hi and low pressure fittings put in the hoses. Had the Low Pressure put in on the return hose to the compressor between the support bracket on the cam cover and the compressor, so it is close to the compressor, but easy to get to, and not to close to the hot engine itself. I really like where it is, looks good too. For the high pressure, had it put in line on the pressure hose where it runs behind the grill just before it joins with the fitting at the top of the condenser. Once again, I think it's in a good place, easy enough to take the grill out, and there it is. I wanted to be able to read both pressures.
Ok, so now the question. The Sanden comes with what they call a "FULL CHARGE" of Oil, (200cc) or (6.80z). According to one chart I have, that is dead on what the system is supposed to have for an 1987-90 Model. However, thats a different oil, and for a Kiki compressor. The same chart says 8.11 oz for a 1990-1992 Model with a Sanden compressor. Hmmm is the difference due to the compressor, or because the system is an Orifice type system, or just larger capacity (bigger Evaporator)??
So anyone know how much oil I should put in my 1987 System with a Sanden Compressor?
Next question is.... I have 2 automotive HVAC books and have done extensive internet searches, and some people say to put ALL the oil needed in the Compressor, and others say to spread it out. Say 2 oz in the Compressor, 2 oz in the Condenser, 2 oz in the Dryer, and 2 oz in the Evaporator for a total of say 8.0 oz.
Once question about doing this.... What happens when IF I spread the love around, and then put the Vacuum pump on it? Wont the Vacuum pump suck all the oil out?
If I just leave the oil in the Compressor, will the Vacuum pump suck the Oil out of there too?
None of this seems to be covered in any of my books, nor have I found an answer on the many bulletin boards I have searched. Any help most welcome as I am burning up down here :(
