This starter was just removed from daughters car, it appeared that by just thumping the solenoid we could keep it running until I got home to fix it. At the same time a cell in the battery died and the thumping trick no longer worked. Battery and starter were replaced and all is well with the car.
I just tested the starter on the bench an it appears to work fine if you thump the solenoid every time try to run the starter. The starter is a Bosch rebuilt starter that I bought new and it has been in use for about 5 years.
Is there a reliable way to service the solenoid or is a replacement part the best way to restore a reliable starter? Should I disassemble, clean and inspect other wear items?
Thanks
Dan
