Simons exhaust in 1967 wagon 120-130

I know that there is supposed to be a support bracket that hangs off the passenger side of the bell housing that is intended to support the front pipe. Stock, the front pipe goes all the way back to the front muffler. Simons replaces the front "box" with a tube/silencer muffler, and the front/down pipe connects to this muffler right after the front pipe bends and heads to the rear. I do not have the stock bracket (though it wouldn't take too much to fab one up), but I'm wondering how necessary this intermediate support is.
The Simons kit comes with a clamp that goes on the pipe and is meant to be attached to the bellhousing bracket. I want to believe that the heavy gauge of the pipe and clamps obviates the necessity of this additional support. Any thoughts or experience welcome. Thanks
