Q1: Sometime way back I bought a pretty shabby looking fuel pump to use as a spare for my '70E. The one with three hose connections in the front and the electrical connection on the top. I no longer recall, but think the extra hose connection has something to do with a return line connected to the bypass on the pressure regulator.

While inventorying my extensive collection of spares (I have a data base), I decided to see if it still worked as it had when I bought it. It didn't. Just hummed. Took the front off and found rust in the impeller compartment. Not a big deal to clean up. Got the motor shaft turning after liberal use of Blaster, but it's still too bound up to be turned by the internal electrics. Looks like four pinches in the metal shell hold the front plate, brushes and rotor in place, but before I start bending metal I wonder if anyone has experience with these and can give me some guidance.

Q2: I think replacements for these three-hose pumps are very rare and expensive. However straight thru pumps, as I believe Volvo switched to in later model years, are relatively inexpensive. When/If my original pump goes bad, is it easy to convert to the newer style pump? I already have a regulator without a bypass.

I always tell admirers that I'd get in the car, with nothing more than a spare fuel pump, and drive it cross country. That's why I'd like to fix that spare or, maybe just be able to do an enroute conversion.
