M40 top cover and shift alignment 140-160

I removed the top cover of my M40 to replace the gasket and fluid before installing it in an auto-to-manual swap. Inside I found this broken piece flopping around. I have another one, but I could use some help lining up the cover with the shift rods. Does anyone with more experience have any pointers? Each time I put the cover on, I can get it to bolt down easily, but I'm only feeling one gear click in. I'm definitely not getting reverse.
