This is under the catching-up department. A common flaw w/the 240 wagons is the rear wires being placed underneath the rear hinges. Over time, the wires break, causing all sorts of gremlins w/the rear lights. The problem was solved sometime after my 1990 wagon whereby Volvo ran the wires up the rear pillars, as opposed to through the hinges. My mechanic tells me this is still a common problem w/modern day Jeeps, as the wires literally go through the middle of the doors. So for those needing new rear window brake light parts, here are some numbers to help you out through the process. As you might guess, when the rear window brake light does not work, you cannot get an inspection sticker etc.. These parts are generally NLA in the U.S., but are available overseas at Volvo Genuine Classic Parts.

1987-89 wagons: Note these guys use a different set-up and less overall parts

Note the whole unit is #1372087, but Volvo shows a picture of what looks like a 244 sedan rear window set-up, and not a wagon set-up. Someone else can delve further on the issue if interested.
