transmission oil cooler line 200 1990

Hi,

I recently had reason to disconnect my oil cooler lines from a seemingly healthy radiator. I put an adjustable wrench on the big nut to back hold, and the coupling nuts both loosed easily.

On one of the lines, the back hold reacted to the release of stress on the coupling nut by moving slightly backwards, and I don't think that's a good thing. I was able to reposition the nut to it's original position, and it offers a fair amount of resistance but it's definitely movable.

I can't be sure, but I think it's possible that the radiator was operating in this condition before I came upon it. It's the first time I've removed it's lines and there was no noise or any feeling that something had given way. There was no evidence of any cross contamination in either coolant or tranny oil.

I have a couple of good spare rads to replace it with, but out of curiosity I thought I might pressure test it to see what's up. Before doing that though, I would like to revisit Art Benstein's post on the innards of this unit.

I've spent an hour searching without success, so if anyone can direct me to it, I would be appreciative.

regards, Peter
