This is a 1994 B230FT engine.
I am assembling this thing slow as molasses in January, and wanted to verify this before I go farther.
So far, I have: Engine bored over .010, new mahle pistons with preinstalled rings, new bearings, new oil pump, etc. I would hate to have this die on me after 1,000 miles.
I have the factory service manual for the engine, and it shows orientation for the rods relative to the pistons, but the area it shows for a reference stamp has stamps on *both sides* of the rods. One side has an H stamp, the other has a number stamp on both halves of the bearing shell. The crankshaft main bearing shells have their number on the same side as the oil pump and intake manifold.
Without the rods and new pistons (rings preinstalled) installed, I could turn the engine by hand by holding the crank. I expect more resistance to turning, especially with all 4 pistons at their top/bottom dead center, but this seems like a lot. I threaded the harmonic balancer bolt back in, and could not turn it over with a breaker bar. I did take photos of the disassembly, but I can't see the rod numbers in them - there are never enough disassembly photos.
Before I go further, I want to make sure - do the conn rod numbers go on the same side as the main bearing numbers?
